Malaysia’s Index of Industrial Production (IPI) grew moderately by 3.2% in September 2016
The Index of Industrial Production (IPI) grew moderately by 3.2% in September 2016 as compared to the same month of the previous year. The steady performance of the IPI in September 2016 was mainly driven by the increase in Manufacturing sector (4.0%) and Electricity sector (7.1%). Meanwhile, the Mining sector declined marginally by 0.1%
Manufacturing sector increased moderately by 4.0% in September 2016 after registering 4.6% increase in August 2016. The major sub-sectors which expanded in September 2016 were: Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (4.4%); Electrical and Electronics Products (6.5%) and Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (3.2%).
The Mining sector output contracted by 0.1% in September 2016 (August 2016 : 4.3%) due to the 2.3% decrease in Crude Oil index. The Natural Gas index however rose 2.6%.
The Electricity sector output increased by 7.1% in September 2016 after registering a growth of 11.4% in August 2016.
