The Bumiputera Statistics
Publication 2025 presents national and state level statistics for the year of 2016
to 2025, covering social and economic indicators.
In 2025, the Bumiputera population
increased by 0.9 per cent to 21.8 million.
The
male population continued to exceed females, with 11.0 million males compared
to 10.8 million females, resulting in a sex ratio of 102 males for every 100
females.
The total fertility rate in 2024
declined to 1.6 children per woman aged 15–49 years.
Meanwhile,
life expectancy at birth in 2025 is estimated at 72.1 years for males and 77.0
years for females.
In 2023, Pneumonia was the leading
medically certified cause of death with 11,209 cases (14.9%). This was followed
by Ischaemic heart diseases (11,181
cases; 14.9%), Cerebrovascular diseases
(5,823 cases; 7.7%), Transport accidents
(3,050 cases; 4.1%), Chronic lower
respiratory diseases (1,601 cases; 2.1%) and Diabetes mellitus (1,407 cases; 1.9%).
The Bumiputera labour force remained
robust with a growth of 1.4 per cent in 2024, reaching 9.9 million persons,
comprising 6.0 million males and 3.9 million females.
The
labour force participation rate (LFPR) recorded 67.4 per cent, with male LFPR
at 80.8 per cent and female LFPR increasing to 53.8 per cent.
The
unemployment rate continued to fall to 3.4 per cent, namely 3.3 per cent for
males and 3.5 per cent for females.
The number of Bumiputera graduates in
2024 decreased by 2.0 per cent to 3.7 million persons, consisting of 1.6
million males and 2.1 million females.
The
graduates’ labour force participation rate recorded 86.0 per cent, with 89.5
per cent for males and 83.3 per cent for females.
The
unemployment rate among graduates also declined to 3.4 per cent, namely 3.2 per
cent for males and 3.6 per cent for females.
In 2024, the residential property sector
recorded an increase in the number and value of transfers, with 128,747
transactions worth RM37.7 billion.
The commercial
property sector also expanded with 5,161 transactions worth RM2.8 billion.
