Overview
In 2018, volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade recorded a growth of 7.7 per cent to 168.9 points. On the fourth quarter, it expanded 8.1 per cent to 173.8 points as compared to the same period in 2017. The growth was driven by Retail Trade with 11.8 per cent.
Seasonally adjusted volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade went up 1.7 per cent as against the third quarter 2018. The increase was propelled by Wholesale Trade sub-sector with 2.6 per cent.

Wholesale Trade Sub-sector
Volume index of Wholesale Trade grew 6.2 per cent to 182.2 points in the fourth quarter 2018 as compared to fourth quarter 2017. The growth was supported mainly by Non-specialised Wholesale Trade (9.9%) and Wholesale of Household Goods (9.1%).
Retail Trade Sub-sector
In fourth quarter 2018, the Retail Trade sub-sector registered a growth of 11.8 per cent to 183.3 points year-on-year. The growth was driven by Retail Sale of Information and Communication Equipment in Specialised Stores (15.1%) and Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (13.2%).
Motor Vehicles Sub-sector
Volume index of Motor Vehicles which includes Parts and Accessories posted an increase of 1.9 per cent to 127.5 points in the fourth quarter 2018 as against the same quarter 2017. The increase was contributed by Sale, Maintenance and Repair of Motorcycles and Related Parts and Accessories activities (6.4%).
