HIGHLIGHTS

Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade stood at  RM96.9 billion in June 2017, registering  8.6 per cent growth as compared to the corresponding period in 2016. The sales value consists of Wholesale Trade (RM46.9 billion), Retail Trade  (RM38.1 billion) and Motor Vehicles  (RM11.8 billion) businesses. The positive growth was contributed by Retail Trade (13.9%). 

Volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade rose  7.0 per cent to  159.7 points in June 2017 as compared to June 2016. The growth was supported by the increase in Retail Trade  (12.7 %). Seasonally adjusted volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade increased  0.1 per cent as compared to the preceding month.

Wholesale Trade Business

Sales  value  of  Wholesale  Trade  business  registered   8.4  per  cent  growth  to   RM46.9 billion  as  compared  to  the  corresponding  month  of  the previous year. Month-on-month, sales value of this business increased  0.2 per cent.

Volume  index  of  Wholesale  Trade   grew   5.7  per  cent  to   167.8  points   in   June  2017  as  compared  to  June   2016.   Month-on-month,  volume index of Wholesale Trade (seasonally adjusted) decreased  0.1 per cent as against the previous month.

Retail Trade Business

Retail  Trade  business  recorded  an  increase  in  sales  value  to   RM38.1  billion  or   13.9  per  cent  as  compared  to  last  year. Month-on-month, this business increased  1.9 per cent.

Volume index of Retail Trade rose  12.7 per cent to  164.7 points in June 2017 as compared to the same month a year earlier. Compared to May 2017, seasonally adjusted volume index of Retail Trade went up  3.2 per cent.

Motor Vehicles Business

In this month, sales value of Motor Vehicles business decreased  4.8 per cent to  RM11.8 billion  as compared to the same month of the preceding year. Sales value of Motor Vehicles business declined  6.7 per cent as compared to the previous month.

Year-on-year, volume index of Motor Vehicles decreased  6.3 per cent to  126.4 points in June 2017. Seasonally adjusted volume index of Motor Vehicles went down  8.8 per cent in June 2017 as against May 2017.
