HIGHLIGHTS

 Sales  value  of  Wholesale  &  Retail  Trade increased  to  RM89.7  billion in November 2016, registering  5.7 per cent growth as compared to the corresponding  period  in  2015.  The  sales value consists  of  Wholesale  Trade  (RM43.6 billion),  Retail  Trade  (RM34.5 billion)  and  Motor Vehicles (RM11.7 billion)  businesses.  The positive growth was contributed by Retail Trade  (9.0%)  and Wholesale Trade  (5.1%) businesses.

The index of Wholesale & Retail Trade which measures the volume changes rose by  5.6 per cent in November 2016 as compared to November 2015.  The growth was led by Retail Trade  (7.7%) and Wholesale Trade  (6.0%). The seasonally adjusted index of Wholesale & Retail Trade drop to  -0.4 per cent as compared to the preceding month.

Wholesale Trade Business

Sales value of Wholesale Trade business registered  5.1 per cent growth to  RM43.6 billion as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.  On a monthly basis, sales value of this business decreased by  -1.6 per cent.

The index of Wholesale Trade grew  6.0 per cent in November 2016 as compared to November 2015.  Month-on-month, the index of Wholesale Trade (seasonally adjusted) went down by  -2.7 per cent as against the previous month.

Retail Trade Business

Retail Trade business  recorded  an  increase  in  sales value  of  RM2.9 billion  or  9.0 per cent as  compared  to  last  year.  Month-on-month, this business rose by  1.2 per cent.

The index of Retail Trade rose  7.7 per cent in November 2016 as compared to the same month a year earlier.  Compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted index of Retail Trade expanded by  1.4 per cent. 

Motor Vehicles Trade Business

In this month, sales value of Motor Vehicles business went down to  RM11.7 billion or  -1.2 per cent  as compared to the same month of the preceding year. On a monthly basis, sales value of Motor Vehicles business increased to  0.4 per cent.

The index of Motor Vehicles decreased to  -1.8 per cent in November 2016 as compared to the corresponding period in 2015.  The seasonally adjusted index of Motor Vehicles increased to  2.2 per cent in November 2016 over the previous month.
