Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 2.0 per cent in November 2019

The Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 2.0 per cent in November 2019 as compared with the same month of the previous year. The growth in November 2019 was driven by the increase in the index of Manufacturing (2.5%), Electricity (1.6%) and Mining (0.5%).

 

On year-on-year basis, the Manufacturing sector output rose by 2.5 per cent in November 2019 after recording a growth of 2.2 per cent in October 2019. The major sub-sectors contributing to the increase in November 2019 were Transport Equipment and Other Manufactures (4.3%), Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (3.7%) and Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (2.0%).

 

The Mining sector output grew 0.5 per cent in November 2019 as compared to the same period of the previous year. The positive growth was due to the increase in Natural Gas index (3.7%). Meanwhile, Crude Oil and Condensate index declined by 3.3 per cent.

 

The Electricity sector output increased by 1.6 per cent in November 2019 as compared to the same month of the previous year.
