Overview
The index of Distributive Trade grew by 5.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2015 as compared to the same quarter of 2014. The increase was contributed by the growth in all sub-sectors; Wholesale Trade (7.7%), Retail Trade (3.9%) and Motor Vehicles (1.7%).
After seasonal adjustment, index of Distributive Trade decreased to negative 1.1 per cent due to the deceleration in Retail Trade (-4.4%) and Motor Vehicles (-0.3%) sub-sectors.

Performance of Wholesale Trade Sub-sector
The index of Wholesale Trade remained on steady path in the second quarter of 2015 by registering a year on year growth of 7.7 per cent. The growth was stimulated by Wholesale of Agricultural Raw Materials and Live Animals (14.1%), Other Specialised Wholesale (13.2%) and Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis (8.2%).
Performance of Retail Trade Sub-sector
In the second quarter of 2015, the Retail Trade sub-sector rose by 3.9 per cent year-on-year. The increase was supported by Retail Sale via Stalls and Markets (11.2%), Retail Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores (10.4%) and Retail Trade Not in Stores, Stalls or Markets (6.3%).
Performance of Motor Vehicles Sub-sector
The index of Motor Vehicles which includes Parts and Accessories went up by 1.7 per cent in second quarter 2015 as compared to second quarter 2014. The growth was largely fuelled by Sale of Motor Vehicles (5.2%) and Sale of Motor Vehicles Parts and Accessories (0.1%).
