Production of natural rubber (NR) increased 28.5 per cent in October 2017

Production of natural rubber (NR) increased by  14,931 tonnes  (28.5%) to  67,403 tonnes in October 2017 as compared to the previous month. Year-on-year comparisons also showed an increase of  8.3 per cent compared to October 2016. The main contributor of NR production is from smallholding sector which is more than  90 per cent.

Average monthly price of Latex Concentrate and Standard Malaysian Rubber 20 in October 2017 were  489.36 sen per kilogramme and  601.21 sen per kilogramme, decreased by  11.4 per cent and  9.0 per cent respectively from September 2017.

Exports of NR in October 2017 rose by  2,018 tonnes  (4.5%) to  47,162 tonnes as compared to September 2017. Five main destinations of NR exports were China, Germany, U.S.A., Iran and Republic of Korea.

Domestic consumption of NR in October 2017 was  42,753 tonnes, increased by  2,092 tonnes  (5.2%) as compared to the previous month. Rubber glove industry was the largest industry using NR of  31,041 tonnes  (72.9%).

At the end of October 2017, level of NR stocks increased by  12,564 tonnes  (6.5%) to  206,593 tonnes.
