1. PRODUCTION
The production of natural rubber (NR) in November 2014 was recorded at 53,040 tonnes, increased by 5,252 tonnes (+11.0%) from the previous month. However, production dropped 14,262 tonnes (-21.2%) when compared year-on-year. The smallholding sector is the biggest contributor of NR at 90.7 percent whereas the estate sector only 9.3 per cent. Smallholding and estate sector shows an increase in production as compared to the previous month at 11.3 per cent and 8.3 per cent respectively.
2. EXPORTS
This month’s export of NR decreased by 8,270 tonnes (-15.1%) to 46,425 tonnes as compared to October 2014. For year-on-year, exports dropped 27,314 tonnes (-37.0%). Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R.) contributed 93.3 per cent of the total NR exports with 63.4 per cent comprised of S.M.R. 20.
The main destination for exports of NR were the People’s Rep. of China (53.4%), followed by Germany (9.5%), U.S.A. (7.2%), Islamic Rep. of Iran (5.6%), Rep. of Korea (2.6%), Brazil (1.8%), Mexico (1.8%), Turkey (1.5%) and Taiwan (1.4%). The total exports to these countries accounted for 84.8 per cent of the overall NR exports.
3. IMPORTS
In November 2014, imports of NR amounted to 80,457 tonnes, increased by 3,596 tonnes (+4.7%) from a month ago but fell 13,497 tonnes (-14.4%) from a year ago. Standard Rubber was the main type of rubber imported at 35.0 per cent of total imports.
NR was imported mainly from Thailand at 45.0 per cent and Viet Nam 30.8 per cent. These two countries accounted for 75.8 per cent of the total NR imports in November 2014.
4. DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION
The total domestic consumption of NR in November 2014, was recorded at 38,712 tonnes, increased by 1,486 tonnes (+4.0%) from October 2014. Domestic consumption also went up by 2,613 tonnes (+7.2%) when compared to a year ago.
The rubber gloves industry was the highest consuming industry of NR at 27,151 tonnes (70.1%), followed by rubber thread (9.2%) and tyre & tubes (6.6%). These three industries consumed more than half of the overall domestic consumption in the country with a total of 33,296 tonnes (86.0%).
5. STOCKS
At the end of November 2014, the level of NR stocks was recorded at 132,048 tonnes, decreased by three tonnes (-0.0%) as compared to the previous month. NR stocks also dropped by 28,625 tonnes (-17.8%) when compared to the level of stocks a year ago.
6. AVERAGE MONTHLY PRICE PER KILOGRAMME

The average monthly price of latex concentrate went up by 16.56 sen (+4.3%) in November 2014 to 397.13 sen per kilogramme as compared to October 2014. Nevertheless, the price of latex concentrate dropped by 115.32 sen (-22.5%) when compared to November 2013.
The average monthly price of G.M.M. 20 was recorded at 503.55 sen per kilogramme, increased by 17.81 sen (+3.7%) when compared to month-on-month, whereas for year-on-year dropped by 220.43 sen (-30.4%).
7. EMPLOYMENT
At the end of November 2014, a total of 12,344 persons were engaged in rubber estates where 12,340 were paid employees with salaries & wages amounting to RM15.5 million. The number of paid employees reduced by 0.8 per cent from the previous month but increased by 0.9 per cent from November 2013.
8. PRODUCTIVITY
The productivity of NR production on estates in November 2014, was recorded at 125.0 kilogramme per hectare. Productivity of NR production shows an increase when compared to month-on-month and year-on-year at 10.2 kilogramme per hectare (+8.9%) and 16.0 kilogramme per hectare (+14.7%) respectively.
