Natural Rubber (NR) dropped by 4.1 per cent in January 2017

In January 2017, production of natural rubber dropped by  4.1 percent to  66,617 tonnes as compared to December 2016. Smallholding sector was the main contributor to the production of natural rubber which is  93.7 per cent.

Average monthly price of Latex Concentrate and Standard Malaysian Rubber 20 were  710.70 sen per kilogramme and  957.23 sen per kilogramme, increased by  15.4 per cent and  14.0 per cent respectively from the previous month.

Exports of NR in January 2017 decreased by  17.9 per cent to  50,410 tonnes as compared to December 2016. Five main destinations of NR exports were China, Germany, Iran, U.S.A. and Republic of Korea.

Meanwhile, domestic consumption of natural rubber declined by  2.5 per cent to  39,861 tonnes within the same period. The main domestic consumers of natural rubber is dominated by rubber gloves industry at  74.9 per cent.

Level of NR stocks went up by  8.8 per cent to  221,376 tonnes at the end of January 2017.
