Overview

Malaysia’s trade performance recorded a positive growth in October 2025 in line with the increase in both exports and imports. Total trade rose by RM33.2 billion or 13.6 per cent, year-on-year (y-o-y), to reach a value of RM277.6 billion. Trade surplus also surged by 58.9 per cent to RM19.0 billion compared to RM12.0 billion in the same month of the previous year.

Month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison showed that total trade expanded by 7.7 per cent and trade surplus declined by 6.1 per cent.

For the period of January to October 2025, exports increased by 6.0 per cent, imports grew by 4.7 per cent, total trade strengthened by 5.4 per cent and trade surplus rose by 19.1 per cent.

Performance of Exports

In October 2025, Malaysia’s exports posted a robust increase of 15.7 per cent to RM148.3 billion from RM128.2 billion in October 2024

This growth aligned with a sharp increase in re-exports which accounted for 26.4 per cent of total exports, soaring by 36.4 per cent to RM39.1 billion.

Meanwhile, domestic exports grew by 9.7 per cent to RM109.2 billion, representing 73.6 per cent of total exports.

On a m-o-m basis, re-exports climbed by 13.4 per cent, while domestic exports edged up by 4.5 per cent. Seasonally adjusted terms m-o-m analysis indicated that exports grew by 7.7 per cent to RM144.8 billion. 

Performance of Imports

Malaysia imports in October 2025 recorded an increased of 11.2 per cent or RM13.1 billion to reach RM129.3 billion. On a m-o-m basis, imports rose by 8.9 per cent or RM10.5 billion. With regards to analysis of the seasonally adjusted terms m-o-m, imports increased by 4.0 per cent to RM125.2 billion.

On a y-o-y basis, imports by End Use showed positive growth in capital goods (+51.9%) and consumption goods (+3.6%), but intermediate goods declined by 5.7 per cent.
