Overview

Highlights

The Leading Index (LI) which monitors the economic performance in advance increased 0.2% as compared to the previous month. The LI was recorded at 117.8 points in November 2014 as against 117.6 points in October 2014. Three main components that recorded the highest percentage increase were Expected Sales in Manufacturing sector (0.4%), Bursa Malaysia Industrial Index (0.2%) and Real Imports of Semi Conductors (0.2%). The annual change of LI increased to 1.4% from 0.7% recorded in the previous month.

The Coincident Index (CI) which measures the current economic activity, also increased 0.3% in the reference month. The increase was driven by Capacity Utilisation in Manufacturing sector (0.2%), Total Employment in Manufacturing sector (0.1%) and Industrial Production Index (0.1%). The annual change of CI slowed to 1.7% as compared to 1.9% recorded last month.

The annual change of LI showed an improvement in the reference month. On the other hand, CI recorded a lower growth as compared to the previous month. Supported by both Diffusion Indexes which were above 50.0%, this suggests that the Malaysian economy will continue to expand at a slower pace in the months ahead.
