Overview

The Export Unit Value Index continues to grow by 0.9 per cent in September 2025, reaching to 154.2 points


Exports

The export unit value index rose by 0.9 per cent in September 2025 as compared to the previous month. This growth was primarily driven by the increases in the index of animal & vegetable oils & fats (+3.4%), food (+0.8%) and machinery & transport equipment (+0.7%). Likewise, the export volume index also grew by 4.7 per cent in line with the increase in the index of machinery & transport equipment (+13.0%) and inedible crude materials (+7.9%). The seasonally adjusted export volume index also increased by 0.9 per cent from 162.5 points to 163.9 points.

Referring to the annual comparison, both the exports unit value index and volume index expanded 3.3 per cent and 8.6 per cent respectively.


Imports

The import unit value index declined 0.2 per cent in September 2025, contributed by the decline in the index of mineral fuels (-2.8%), machinery & transport equipment (-0.6%) and manufactured goods (-0.4%). Meanwhile, the import volume index increased by 3.2 per cent in September 2025 as compared to the previous month, contributed by the increment in the index of mineral fuels (+30.6%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (+30.1%) and machinery & transport equipment (+2.9%). The seasonally adjusted import volume index also ascended by 7.6 per cent from 205.8 points to 221.4 points.

A year-on-year comparison showed that the import unit value index edged down by 2.1 per cent while volume index edged up by 9.5 per cent.


Terms of trade

Malaysia's terms of trade ascended 1.1 per cent month-on-month to 123.9 points in September 2025, driven by the increase in the index of mineral fuels (+2.5%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (+2.4%) and machinery & transport equipment (+1.3%). In addition, Malaysia's terms of trade rose 5.5 per cent year-on-year from 117.5 points in September previous year.
