Overview

    This report presents statistics on the Transportation and storage services that was compiled based on Economic Census 2023 for the reference year 2022. Transportation and storage services comprise Land transport; Water transport; Warehousing & support activities; and Post & courier services.

    In general, the main statistics for Transportation and storage services in 2022 indicated an increase from 2015. In 2022, there were 48,793 establishments in this subsector, compared to 54,190 in 2015. The value of gross output in 2022 increased by 3.7 per cent annually to reach RM140.5 billion compared to 2015. In parallel, value of intermediate input grew to RM82.5 billion, indicating a 3.3 per cent annual growth rate from 2015. As a result, value added increased from RM43.7 billion in 2015 to RM58.1 billion in 2022 with an annual growth rate of 4.1 per cent.

    These services engaged 475,831 persons compared to 411,273 persons in 2015, representing an annual growth rate of 2.1 per cent. During the same period, the salaries & wages increased to 3.7 per cent to reach RM18.4 billion in 2022 (2015: RM14.3 billion). Meanwhile, the value of fixed assets owned by establishments in the Transportation and storage services amounted to RM204.9 billion in 2022 (2015: RM168.9 billion), with an annual growth rate of 2.8 per cent.
