Overview
- In 2022, there were 12,424 halal establishments in Malaysia, generating a gross output of RM417.2 billion with a value added of RM98.2 billion.
- The total intermediate input was recorded at RM319.0 billion, while the value of fixed assets reached RM105.8 billion.
- In terms of employment, a total of 610,672 workers were engaged in halal establishments, with wages & salaries amounting to RM25.1 billion.
- The Manufacturing sector was the main contributor with 3,590 establishments, gross output of RM347.8 billion and value added of RM61.4 billion. This sector employed 283,184 workers, with total wages & salaries of RM12.4 billion.
- The Services sector recorded 8,464 establishments, gross output of RM59.6 billion and value added of RM32.2 billion. It employed 314,392 workers, with wages and salaries amounting to RM12.3 billion.
- In the Agriculture sector, there were 370 halal establishments, generating a gross output of RM9.9 billion and value added of RM4.7 billion. This sector engaged 13,096 workers, with total wages & salaries of RM345.2 million.
- Selangor recorded the highest number of halal establishments with 3,404, followed by Johor (1,417), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (1,126) and Perak (1,039). Selangor remained the main contributor in the Manufacturing and Services sectors, while Johor led in the Agriculture sector.
- Women-owned establishments totalled 1,285 (10.3%), generating gross output of RM15.1 billion and value added of RM4.1 billion. These establishments employed 30,356 workers with wages and salaries amounting to RM0.9 billion, while fixed assets were valued at RM6.4 billion.
- From the perspective of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), there were 7,748 halal establishments MSMEs, representing 62.4% of total halal establishments. These MSMEs generated gross output of RM86.7 billion, value added of RM22.8 billion and employed 241,080 workers with wages & salaries totalling RM8.2 billion.
- Overall, Malaysia’s Halal Statistics 2022 demonstrated robust growth in terms of the number of establishments, contribution to gross output, employment opportunities, and MSMEs participation, further strengthening Malaysia’s position as a regional leader in the halal economy.
