Overview

This publication presents statistics on the Private education services obtained from Economic Census 2023 for reference year 2022. The Private education services encompasses pre-school education, primary education, general secondary education, technical and vocational education, college and university education, sports and recreation education, cultural education, tuition centre, driving school and other education.

Overall, the main statistics for the Private education services in 2022 showed a positive annual growth rate compared to 2015. The number of establishments operating in the Private education services grew 6.5 per cent to 18,242 establishments in 2022, compared to 11,722 establishments in 2015. The value of gross output in 2022 reached RM24.1 billion, marking a 6.9 per cent increase compared to RM15.2 billion in 2015. Value of Intermediate input increased from RM5.8 billion in 2015 to RM9.1 billion in 2022, with an annual growth rate of 6.6 per cent. The value added increased by 7.0 per cent to RM15.1 billion in 2022, as compared to 9.4 billion in 2015.

The number of persons engaged in the Private education services sector in 2022 was 186,354 persons, an increase of 4.8 per cent from 134,361 persons in 2015. The higher number of persons engaged contributed to an increase in the total salaries and wages in 2022, amounting to RM6.3 billion compared RM4.3 billion in 2015, increase by 5.5 per cent. The value of fixed assets in 2022 stood at 21.0 billion, an increase of 5.7 per cent from RM14.3 billion in 2015.
