Overview

This publication presents statistics on the Professional Services obtained from the Economic Census 2023 for reference year 2022. Professional Services comprises activities of architectural; engineering; land & quantity surveying; accounting; legal; advertising; management consultancy and market research; veterinary; scientific research & development and technical testing & analysis; and other professional.

Overall, the main statistics of Professional Services in 2022 showed a positive annual growth rate compared to 2015. In 2022, the number of establishments operating in this sub-sector was 56,164 establishments with an annual growth rate of 7.4 per cent compared to 34,045 establishments in 2015. The value of gross output in 2022 amounted to RM60.0 billion, an increase of RM19.6 billion compared to 2015 with an annual growth rate of 5.8 per cent. In line with the growth of gross output, the value of intermediate input also increased by RM7.3 billion to record RM23.4 billion with an annual growth rate of 5.5 per cent, resulting value added RM36.6 billion in 2022 (2015: RM24.3 billion).

A total of 359,405 persons engaged were involved in this sub-sector compared to 314,292 persons in 2015 with an annual growth rate of 1.9 per cent. During the same period, the salaries & wages also grew by 5.0 per cent to reach RM14.2 billion in 2022 (2015: RM10.1 billion). Meanwhile, the value of fixed assets for Professional Services in 2022 amounted to RM16.2 billion (2015: RM12.5 billion), indicating an annual growth rate of 3.8 per cent.
