Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 3.9 per cent in June 2019

The Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 3.9 per cent in June 2019 as compared with the same month of the previous year. The growth in June 2019 was driven by the increase in all indices: Mining (4.6%), Manufacturing (3.8%) and Electricity (1.7%).

 

The Manufacturing sector output rose by 3.8 per cent in June 2019 as compared to June 2018 after recording a growth of 4.2 per cent in May 2019. The major sub-sectors contributing to the increase in June 2019 were Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (4.8%), Electrical and Electronics Products (3.5%) and Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (3.0%).

 

The output of Mining sector shows a significant growth in three consecutive months since April 2019 and recorded 4.6 per cent in June 2019 as compared to the same month of the previous year. The growth was contributed by the Natural Gas index (13.0%), while the Crude Oil index decreased by 3.7 per cent.

 

The Electricity sector output increased by 1.7 per cent in June 2019 as compared to the same month of the previous year.

 

The IPI of Malaysia for the second quarter 2019 recorded a growth of 3.9 per cent as compared to the same period of the previous year. The increase was contributed by the growth in all indices: Mining (3.3%), Manufacturing (4.1%) and Electricity (4.4%).
