PERFORMANCE OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION INDEX

The Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 0.5% in July 2014 compared with the same month in the previous year. The increase in July 2014 was due to the positive growth in Manufacturing index and Electricity index of 3.1% and 4.9% respectively. However, the Mining index recorded a negative growth of 7.8%.
The IPI in June 2014 remained unchanged of 7.0% year-on-year.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the IPI in July 2014 receded by 3.8% month-on-month due to the decrease in all three indices: Manufacturing (1.4%); Mining (10.2%) and Electricity (1.7%).








PERFORMANCE OF MANUFACTURING SECTOR

On a yearly basis, Manufacturing output rose by 3.1% in July 2014 following an increase of 9.2% in June 2014. The
subsectors which contributed to the increase in July 2014 were: Electrical and Electronics Products (8.2%); Transport
Equipment and Other Manufactures (12.8%); and Wood Products, Furniture, Paper products, Printing (3.7%). On a
seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, Manufacturing output declined by 1.4% in July 2014.







PERFORMANCE OF ELECTRICITY SECTOR

The Electricity output recorded an increase of 4.9% in July 2014 on yearly basis. In seasonally adjusted terms,
Electricity output decreased by 1.7% in July 2014 compared to the previous month.









PERFORMANCE OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION INDEX FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY TO JULY 2014

During the period January to July 2014, Malaysia's Industrial Production Index expanded 4.6% compared with the same period in the previous year. The expansion was contributed by the increase in Manufacturing index and Electricity index of 6.6% and 4.6% respectively. Meanwhile, the Mining index decreased by 0.8%.
