HIGHLIGHTS

Manufacturing Sales registered RM61.9 billion in May 2017

Malaysia’s May manufacturing sales continues to record a strong growth of  19.5%, rising to  RM61.9 billion as compared to  RM51.8 billion reported a year ago.

Year-on-year,  the significant  increase  in  sales  value in May 2017 was due to the increase in Electrical and Electronics  Products  (24.0%) Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (20.5%) and Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal  (13.3%). These three sub-sectors contributed 79.8% to the sales value of the manufacturing sector.

Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in May 2017 was  1,051,923 persons, an increase of  2.7% or 27,164 persons as compared to 1,024,759 persons in May 2016.

Salaries & wages paid in May 2017 increased by 13.3%  (RM405.8 million)  to record  RM3,464.2 million.

Sales value per employee increased by  16.4% to record  RM58,863  as compared with the same month of the previous year.
