informal employment in household

The survey population is defined to cover persons who live in private living quarters in Malaysia and hence exclude persons residing in institutions such as hotels, lodging houses, hostels, hospitals, old folk’s homes, military barracks, and prisons.

Information for this survey only covers usual household members who meet the following criteria:

 

  • Aged 15 and over;
  • working in all sectors except agriculture, hunting, forestry and   fisheries, and
  • NON government employees.

Employment in the informal sector includes all occupation in the informal sector or  worked at least in the informal sector establishment in the reference period,  irrespective of their status in employment and whether it was their main or secondary job. However, the survey only covers the main occupation.

Criteria of informal sector establishment includes establishment not registered with CCM and professional bodies, the size of the establishment is less than 10 workers and all or at least one goods or services produced are meant for sale or barter transactions.

The activity of insurance is intended to provide individual institutional units exposed to certain risks with financial protection against the consequences of the occurrence of specified events; it is also a form of financial intermediation in which funds are collected from policyholders and invested in financial or other assets which are held as technical reserves to meet future claims arising from the occurrence of the events specified in the insurance policies.

Interest is a form of income that is receivable by the owners of certain kinds of financial assets, namely: deposits, debt securities, loans and (possibly) other accounts receivable for putting the financial asset at the disposal of another institutional unit.
