age-specific fertility rate

Refer to the number of births by mothers within a specific age group during a given year, per 1,000 females in that age group.

agricultural waste

Waste produced as a result of various agricultural operations.  It includes manure and other wastes from farms, poultry houses and slaughterhouses; harvest waste; fertilizer run-off from fields; pesticides that enter into water, air or soil; and salt and silt drained from fields.

air pollutant index (api)

An indicator which is created based on scientific assessment to provide user friendly information about the presence of air pollution and its impact on human health. API value is calculated based on the average concentration of each air pollutant SO2, NO2, CO, O3 and PM10. Dominant of air pollutant with the highest concentrations of pollutants are accounted for as that will determine the value of the API. In general, concentrations of PM10 are the highest compared to other concentrations and this determines the API readings.

air pollutants

Substances in air that could, at high enough concentrations, harm human beings, animals, vegetation or material. Air pollutants may thus include forms of matter of almost any natural or artificial composition capable of being airborne. They consist of solid particles, liquid droplets or gases or combination of these forms.
