MyStats Day 2020
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 20 October 2010 as World Statistics Day. Since then, the celebration has been held every five years on 20 October. The second and third World Statistics Day were celebrated in 2015 and 2020. In 2025, the fourth World Statistics Day will be observed at the international level.
In 2017, the Cabinet Meeting decided that the National Statistics Day (HSN) would officially be celebrated in Malaysia on 20 October every year. The 2025 celebration marks the 9th HSN with the theme “Statistics, Pulse of Life”. The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has carried out various “Road to HSN” programmes and activities involving Federal and State Governments, Departments, Agencies, Local Authorities, the Private Sector, Institutions of Higher Learning, Colleges, Schools, and various segments of society. These efforts are aimed for enhancing statistical literacy in daily life, in line with DOSM’s mission and vision through the implementation of the Strengthening National Statistical System (PSSN).
DOSM is a Government agency under the purview of the Ministry of Economy, entrusted with the responsibility to collect, interpret, and disseminate timely and up-to-date statistics to monitor the nation’s economic performance, social development, and environmental sustainability. HSN is expected to bring significant impact to DOSM’s initiatives in fostering a statistical culture that contributes to national development and global well-being, aligned with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.
DOSM has successfully contributed to the nation’s progress and excellence through the production of statistics that are both reliable and of integrity. DOSM personnel are valuable assets who play a vital role in ensuring DOSM’s excellence, particularly on the international stage. The theme for the World Statistics Day celebration has been announced by the United Nations (UN) as “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone”, which highlights the importance of quality statistics and data in driving changes towards global progress, accessible and beneficial to all levels of society. This theme will be adopted globally for the period 2025 to 2030.
