KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Building Material Cost Index (BCI) (without steel bars & with steel bars) for almost all building categories in Peninsular Malaysia increased between 0.1 and 1.8 per cent.

  • The BCI in Sabah also showed an increase between 0.1 and 2.6 per cent for almost all building categories.

  • The BCI in Kuching showed an increase between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent for almost all categories of building. Meanwhile, the BCI in Sibu and Miri remained unchanged as in the previous month.

  • The increase in steel prices was reflected in states which have shifted to the National Recovery Plan (PPN) Phase 2 since July 2021. These states are Perak, Pulau Pinang, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Sabah.

Producer Price Index Malaysia July 2021

The Producer Price Index (PPI) local production edged up to 11.7 per cent year-on-year in July 2021 from 11.5 per cent recorded in June 2021.
