The Producer Price Index (PPI) local production increased 12.3 per cent year-on-year in September 2021 as compared to 3.9 per cent drop recorded in the same month of the preceding year. The utility index which comprises Electricity & gas supply and Water supply indices recorded a decrease of 0.2 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively.

A month-on-month comparison showed that the PPI local production rose 0.4 per cent in September 2021. The rebound in petroleum prices and continuous rise in natural gas prices have contributed to the increase of 0.6 per cent for Mining index relative to 0.8 per cent decline recorded in the previous month. In addition, Manufacturing index moved up 0.4 per cent supported by higher prices of refined petroleum products (0.9%). The index of Agriculture, forestry & fishing grew at a modest rate of 0.3 per cent, attributed by slower increase in prices of oil palm fresh fruit bunches. Electricity & gas supply and Water supply indices recorded a drop of 0.5 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively.
