c.i.f. price
Description

The C.i.f. Price (i.e. cost, insurance and freight price) is the price of a good delivered at the frontier of the importing country, or the price of a service delivered to a resident before the payment of any import duties or other taxes on imports or trade and transport margins within the country.

cage culture system
Description

System of fish culture in an enclosure on whatever shape or size made of any screening material and attached to floating structures which are anchored to the sea-bed.

capital expenditure
Description

Refers to the value of purchases and own-account construction of fixed assets during the reference year. Major additions, alterations and improvements to the existing assets that extend their normal economic life or raise productivity are also included in this definition.

carbon cycle
Description
Natural circulation of carbon which is exchanged among large carbon    reserves in the land, the ocean, the biosphere and the atmosphere; Circulation of carbon through ecosystems in the course of which carbon atoms from carbon dioxide are incorporated into organic compounds formed by green plants during photosynthesis.

carbon monoxide
Description


Colourless, odourless and poisonous gas produced by incomplete fossil fuel combustion.

carbon sink
Description
Pool (reservoir) that absorbs or takes up released carbon from another part of the carbon cycle. For example, if the net exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere is towards the atmosphere, the biosphere is the source and the atmosphere is the sink.

carbon tax
Description
Instrument of environmental cost internalisation. It is an excise tax on the producers of raw fossil fuels based on the relative carbon content of those fuels.

carrying capacity
Description
Maximum number of animals of one or more species that can be supported by a particular habitat or area through the most unfavourable period of the year. The carrying capacity is different for each species in a habitat because of particular food, shelter, and social requirements and because of competition from other species that may have similar requirements. Attempts have been made to apply carrying capacity analysis to the human population in particular territories.
